There went my brain… off to New York City… Ah Jacques Torres, Brooklyn pizza, Central Park, R train, favorite museums…
Okay. I’m back.
Over the weekend, two of James’ Chinese teachers took us up over the mountains to a riverside park where mobs of college students and families venture out to with bags of whole chickens, various meats, veggies, and beer to do a modified version of an American barbecue. Tons of huts line the side of the mountain, filled with small tabletop grills, much like that of a local shao kao vendor. Students huddle around these grills for hours – cooking and playing drinking games. Seriously, after about 2+ hours we were full and ready to go, however, they linger for the entire afternoon. By 4pm, I was climbing out of my own skin… its a different pace here, folks. My only side effect of our 6 hour outing is about 150 tiny bug bites on my ankles.
Just around the bend, farmers wash ginseng so the ride in smells incredible.
Apparently this spot is also the place to go to wash your scooter, motorcycle or road bike.
A little oasis of sorts – minus the river bugs.
